MSM, I Don’t Believe You

March 25, 2010
by

This is an open letter to the mainstream media.

Dear MSM,

If you publish a story about a coffin was left on a congressman’s lawn, you need to have a picture of the coffin on the lawn.  If you report that protesters chanted racial slurs at a profusely filmed event, you must show the video.  This is really basic stuff.  If you don’t have a picture, you don’t have a story.  You need to show some proof, because if you don’t NO ONE WILL BELIEVE YOU. No.  Wait.  That’s not right.  Some people will believe you, but NO ONE SHOULD BELIEVE YOU.

And, frankly, I do not believe you.  It’s time for you to put up or shut up.  That should be the motto of every editor in every news room in the country.

Statue of Liberty is on Fire?  Really?  Put up or shut up.

Bear Eats Clown?  Really?  Put up or shut up.

Barack Obama Drunk?  Really?  Put up or shut up.

Until you start being real journalists again, can you really blame us for believing that you are just propagandists and rumor-mongers?

Sincerely,

Greg Steele,

Wild Citizen

If only more bears would eat clowns, the world would be a better place!

and conversely, if people who watch left wing media are brainwashed, my assumption has got be be the same for those who watch right wing media religiously. Anytime you build a news source with an ideology based on politics, you open a pandora’s box to let anything be said.

I don’t know where you see brainwashing, Ken. It’s just unethically leaving out important bits of information with the intent of misleading the public. ALL media organizations are guilty of leaving things out — not always intentionally — but, when a pattern occurs, it’s logical to suspect that it is intentional.
