Happy Violent Commie Day!

It’s May Day.  Various groups of organized labor, socialists, communists, anarchists and illegal immigrants are gathering in 70 cities to break stuff, antagonize police and reinforce their image as a bunch of violent maniacs. If you’re anywhere near one of these gatherings, do yourself a favor and keep clear of them and stay safe.  Oh.  And don’t believe the headlines that say these protests are all about the Arizona immigration law.  They are an annual event and were planned long before the law was passed.

Also of interest today-  The oil leak from the rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico is still out of control.  President Obama announced that he was sending SWAT teams to inspect every oil rig in the Gulf and that Homeland Security and the Department of Defense would be called in , if necessary.  There is a lot of speculation about why Special Weapons And Tactics teams would be needed.  The Daily KOS suggests that the SWAT teams aren’t literal SWAT teams, but instead are the University of California Santa Cruz’s Coastal Biodiversity Survey which is nicknamed The SWAT Team.  I suppose that’s possible, even though a team of biodiversity researchers on an oil rig are about as useful as a truckload of dead rats in a tampon factory.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see as more information becomes available.

Bah! You say anarchist, I say anti-big business and pro-worker. It’s easy to call May day a “Commie” holdiday and write it off, but takes a bit more understanding about real politics to truly see it for what it is. It’s an aniversary of the Haymarket riots in Chicago which occured in 1886 during a protest of letting companies dictate how long a day us hard working stiffs actually have to work during a work day. See, while many things that unions do are questionable at best and illegal at worst (kinda like the US government), they do have an important role. Thanks to the Haymarket Riots we now only have to work 8 hour work days. I dont agree with anybody dying for a work related cause, but at the same time I dont believe in hard working people becoming slaves to their trade either. Is it the companies fault that people got so angry at working 10 hour work days?? No, but while you cant control what every person does, you are responsible for the mood you help create. If you’re gonna have an hostile and beligerant attitude towards people you dont agree with with, things are pretty much guaranteed to get ugly.

As for being about Arizona Immigration, I wonder……. How come all those conservatives who were babbling about healthcare being unconstitutional, have kept relatively quiet about Arizona’s new Immigration laws being in direct opposition to 2 Ammendments to our constitution? I’d have a lot more respect for that Tea Movement if they showed any bit of consistancy on what they call an assault on our constitution. Doesnt matter, they dont care about what’s best for me, they care about being in control.

I know this will prolly start yet another big discussion, but actually looking for common ground instead of being an extremist would do a lot more good for our country, but then where’s the fun and money in that?

Everything you said about May Day and the Haymaker Riot is true, however you still have to consider what is being celebrated and who is celebrating. The groups that show up at the events are a laundry list of socialists, Marxists, Maoists communists and collectivists of all stripes. I’m sure you already know this, but in case I’m mistaken you can start researching at marxists.org

As to AZ’s immigration law, no one’s complaining about its constitutionality because it doesn’t violate the constitution. I don’t know where you got the idea that it did, but is isn’t based in fact.
